Quran Chapter 5- 25 & 26 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-665) - درس قرآن

Command for the Jews to wander in the earth

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

25.  He said: My Lord! I have control of none but myself and my brother, so distinguish between us and the wrongdoing folk.

26.  (Their Lord) said: For this the land will surely be forbidden them for forty years that they will wander in the earth, bewildered. So grieve not over the wrongdoing folk.
25.  Qaala  Rabbi  ‘innii  laaa  ‘amliku  ‘illaa  nafsii  wa  ‘akhii  fafruq  bay-nanaa  wa  baynal-qawmil-faasiqiin.

26.  Qaala  fa-‘innahaa  muharrama-tun  ‘alayhim  ‘arba-‘iina  sanah.  Yatiihuuna  fil-‘arz.  Falaa ta’-sa ‘alal-Qawmil-faasiqiin.

    Commentary

‘Ufruq – (distinguish), it is from Farq, which means “separation, parting with”. That is to say; separate us from them; we do not want to be included into them.

‘Al-faasiqiin – (wrongdoers), it is from fisq, which means “to go out from the limits of law”. It is plural of Faasiq. He is Faasiq, who neither obeys, nor remains in the limits of law as “a bad character or immoral”.

Yatiihuuna – (bewildered, confused), it is from tiyyah, which means “to wander, to lose one’s way, to search diligently”. It aims that they will wander confused and embarrassed.

Laa ta’-sa – (Do not grieve), it is from ‘asii, which means “grief, sorrow, distress, to envy”. It infers that “you should not grieve over them”.

The reply of the Children of Israel was described in the previous lesson. The effect of reply, which influenced Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him), has been mentioned in this verse. He (peace be upon Him) said, “My Lord! Nothing is in my control but me and my brother; we are ready to obey Your Command. Other people of the folk have gripped up their loins to disobey. Incorporate us not into them but distinguish between us and them, because those people are disobedient and wrongdoers”.

It appears from the supplication of Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him) that He (peace be upon Him) was very confused from the arrogantly answer of the Children of Israel. His (peace be upon Him) humble petition was accepted and Allah Almighty commanded; “Now it will not be easy for them to enter that land. If they had obeyed and gone over there, then they would have reaped the advantage from the windfalls of that place. But now they would have to wander in the earth, bewildered surely for forty years.

In these forty years, their present refractory and willful people will expire and their children will go over there and dwell. It was told Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him), “You should not grieve over the disobedient and wrongdoers. They will suffer due to their evil deeds. Do your duty satisfactorily”.
