Punishment of ill-deeds - Quran Chapter 6 – 160 & 161 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-917) -

Quran Chapter 6 – 160 & 161 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-917) -

Punishment of ill-deeds

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

160.  Whoso bringeth a good deed will receive tenfold the like thereof, while whoso bringeth an ill-deed will be awarded but the like thereof; and they will not be wronged.

161.  Say: Lo! As for me, my Lord hath guided me unto a Straight Path, a Right Religion, the Faith of Abraham, the upright, who was no idolater.
160.  Man  jaaa-‘a  bil-hasanati  falahuu  ‘ashru  ‘amsaalihaa.  Wa  man-  jaaa-‘a  bis-sayyi-‘ati  falaa  yuj-zaaa  ‘illaa  mislahaa  wa  hum  laa  yuzlamuun.

161.  Qul  ‘innanii  hadaanii  Rabbiii  ‘ilaa  Siraatim-Mus-taqiim.  Diinan-  Qiya-mam-Millata  ‘Ibraahiima  haniifaa.  Wa  maa  kaana  minal-mushrikiin.

Commentary

Diinun – (the Religion, the Path to go on, better way of doing), if this path is written in the form of a law, it will be called Millat. And it is the Divine Law of the Religion too.

Qiya-mun – (straight, right, strong, prescribed). It is an adjective. Actual word is qawmun. According to the Arabic grammar, “’aw” has been changed with “iya”. Its substance is “Q-aw-m”, which means “standing”. The words qayam (standing erect, stability, abode etc.), qayem (standing, perpendicular, stagnant, firm, constant etc.), qayyammustaqiim, qawaam, maqaam etc. have also been derived from the same origin, and the meanings like “strength, durability, ratification, support, confirmation and support” etc. exist into all of these words. Qayyam, Qaem and Mustaqiim have the same meanings; however, exaggeration in the word qayyam is more than others.

Haniifun – (the upright), the individual, who turns his face from all, is called Haniif. Its adjective is hanaf, which means “to turn towards, to bow”. We have discussed this word already in Surah ‘Aali-‘Imraan”.

Common code regarding provision of rewards against good works has been described in this verse. Foundation of the law depends on that general mercy which has passed in the second Section of this Chapter (Surah) – Kataba  ‘alaa  Nafsi-hir-Rahmah {He (Allah Almighty) hath prescribed for Himself Mercy}. It was demand of that Mercy that the human being should do good works and he should be given rewards. But he will do good works thence, when he will control his caprice and bestial desires.

Therefore, besides the retaliation of good works, he will also be rewarded separately for pressing his desires, for which he has to work hard. That; extra reward of retaliation will be at least tenfold the like thereof every goodness, while punishment against any ill-deed will be only the like thereof. No extra punishment will be awarded along with it against an ill-deed, because he has not done any extra labor along with a sin, for which he should be punished. It is clear that doubt of tyranny can never be in it.

Further it is commanded: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! Say to them! My Lord has shown Me quite Straight Path, and this entirely Straight Path is that strong and appointed Religion, Rules of which has been based by Abraham (peace be upon Him). He (peace be upon Him) had pure Belief and intention. He (peace be upon Him) had no other wish but to seek the Will of Allah Almighty. And while the heart of anyone does not have slavery of selfishness or desires, he cannot be an idolater. So, Abraham (peace be upon Him) was never from the idolaters. Worship of idols and selfishness, which was customary in the Arab territory during those days, can never be the part of Abraham’s Religion (peace be upon Him).

Sundering own religion - Quran Chapter 6 – 159 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-916) -

Quran Chapter 6 – 159 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-916) -

Sundering own religion

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

159.  Lo! As for those who sunder their religion and become schismatics, no concern at all hast thou with them. Their case will go to Allah, Who then will tell them what they used to do.
159.  ‘Innal-laziina  farraquu  diinahum  wa  kaanuu  shiya- ‘allasta  minhum  fii  shay.  ‘Inna-maaa  ‘amruhum  ‘ilAllaahi  summa  Yunabbi-‘uhum-  bimaa  kaanuu  yaf-‘aluun.

Commentary

In the previous Section, after describing briefly about those matters, which Allah Almighty has prescribed for the mankind, it was commanded that “It is the Straight Path”. Choosing any other way and leaving It, is going astray. Then it was explained that these are the Revelations, which were described in Torah, and after all, these Commands have been collected in the Holy Qur’an with some necessary amendments for the human beings of every time (forever in future), and sent down by means of the last Messenger of the world, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Now it is duty of every human being that they should obey the commands, mentioned in It, because it is the Religion, which has been fixed by God Almighty for all people at this time. It was commanded earlier: WA'-TASIMUU  BIHAB-LILLAAHI  JAMII-'ANW- WA  LAA TAFARRAQUU"And hold fast by the rope (Quran and hadith) of Allah (Almighty and His Messenger) all together and be not disunited". You should neither break this religion into pieces and nor become schismatic separately. Carrying on the same series, sectarianism in the religion has been prohibited in this verse with an emphasis.

It is commanded: O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! You do not have any relationship with those people, who either made amendments in their religion before you and created their separate religious groups, or will be disunited in the religion after you, or by making any separate sect, will withdraw through pride from the company of other Muslims, having ideas or opinions of their own. It manifests that those people have not remained firm upon the religion, which God has revealed unto the last Messenger, whereas it is the same religion, which has been fixed always for the mankind and will remain prescribed forever. There is no space of divisions in it. Allah Almighty will deal with those people Personally; who will create separate groups in this religion, when they will attend His Court. At that time their eyes will be opened and they will say: Alas! We talked very foolishly. If we are given a chance of sending back to the world, then certainly, we shall show ourselves firm on the True Religion. Those mankind, who do not use first the sense and wisdom, bestowed by Allah Almighty, surely later, they would have to repent.

It can be understood clearly from this verse that the basic principles regarding belief and practical rules are the same, which have been explained in the Holy Qur’an, which were remained established from the beginning of mankind, have been and will remain fixed forever. There is no scope of having any separate opinion or making any separate group in the religion. Those Rules are:

1.    Ascribe No partner with God (Allah Almighty).

2.    Do good and oblige with the human beings.

3.    Do not kill anyone unjustly.

4.    Lewd things, evil talks and deeds are not allowed, whether those are secretly or openly.

5.    Do justice in all affairs and do not support unlawfully to any close kinsfolk or friend.

6.    Be united mutually all together.

Time of disclosing the Unseen - Quran Chapter 6 – 158 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-915) -

Quran Chapter 6 – 158 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-915) -

Time of disclosing the Unseen

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

158.  Wait they, indeed, for nothing less than that the angels should come unto them, or thy Lord should come, or there should come any of the portents from thy Lord? The day when one of the portents from thy Lord cometh, its belief availeth naught a soul which theretofore believed not, nor in its belief earned good (by works). Say: Wait ye! Lo! We (too) are waiting.
158.  Hal  yanzuruuna  ‘illaaa  ‘an-ta’-ti-ya-humul-malaaa-‘ikatu  ‘aw  ya’-tiya  Rabbuka  ‘aw  ya’-tiya  ba’-zu  ‘Aayaati  Rabbik.  Yawma  ya’-tii  ba’-zu  ‘Aayaati-  Rabbika  laa  yanfa-‘u  nafsan  ‘iimaanuhaa  lam  takun  ‘aamanat  min-  qablu  ‘aw  kasabat  fiii  ‘iimaanihaa  khayraa.  Qulin-taziruuu  ‘innaa  munta-ziruun.

Commentary

Khayrun – it means “goodness, betterment, virtue and benefit”. Here it aims “repentance, penitence”.

It was stated earlier that Allah Almighty revealed His commands upon the Messengers (peace be upon Them) for the guidance of mankind. Then Torah was given to Messenger Moses (peace be upon Him). After that, this blessed Scripture, name of which is Holy Qur’an, was revealed.

The entire instructions have been collected in the Holy Qur’an for the entire human beings in every condition and every time. Now the life of peace and safety can be granted to the mankind only by its guidance. Therefore, it is commanded: Follow it up.

It has been asked in this verse: What is required more than it that, after making so many arrangements for the guidance of human beings, for which they have been waiting for to be completed? The final Scripture has reached. The last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) has come for causing to understand and explaining the way of acting upon its Commands. Are these people waiting now that either the Angels should come unto them or that Lord, Who sent down all of these for the mankind, should come unto them Himself, or His any such portent should come after which, there should remain no doubt?

Really the disbelievers used to say with their mouths all these words. Reply to all of them has been given in this verse that the belief and repentance will be useful at that time, when you will accept the Revelations of Holy Qur’an and Sayings of Muhammad, Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) even now, by using your sense and understanding. Otherwise, if any such calamity fell suddenly, from which, Holy Qur’an and Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) have been frightening, then your belief and penitence will be useless, because useful Belief is that, which is called “Having Faith in the Unseen”. And “the Unseen” is only that, in which, it is believed due to only the Commands of Holy Qur’an, Sayings of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and evidence of own sense.

Whenever the Unseen matters would be disclosed, which either begin to appear at the time of death, or will be revealed adjacent to the ruin of the world, for example; being damaged the system of the sun etc. the belief of such time will not be “the Belief in the Unseen”, so, that belief will be useless, even that the repentance of any sinful Muslim will not be accepted.

A guidance and Mercy - Quran Chapter 6 – 157b (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-914) -

Quran Chapter 6 – 157b (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-914) -

A guidance and Mercy

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

157b.  Now hath there come unto you a Clear Proof from your Lord, a Guidance and Mercy, who then doeth greater wrong than he who denieth the Revelations of Allah, and turneth away from them? We award unto those who turn away from Our Revelations an evil doom because of their aversion.
157b.  Faqad  jaaa-‘akum  Bayyi-natum-mir-Rabbikum  wa Hudanw-wa Rahmah. Faman ‘azlamu  mimman  kazzaba  bi- ‘AayaaTillaahi  wa  sadafa  ‘anhaa.  Sa-naj-zillaziina  yas-difuuna  ‘an  ‘Aayaati-Naa  suuu-‘al-‘azaabi  bimaa  kaanuu  yasdifuun.

Commentary

Sadafa – (turned away), it is a past tense and has been derived from sadfun, which means “to turn away, to shrink from, to decline”. The word Yasdifuun has also come out from the same word.

It was declared in the previous verse that now the people cannot say: No Scripture was revealed unto us. If the Scripture had been revealed unto us, we surely would have been better guided than are they.

Now has there come unto you better than all the Scriptures; named ‘Al-Qur’an, which is a spring of Guidance. If you did not obey the commands mentioned in It, you would be the biggest transgressors.

It is commanded that this Scripture has reached you from your Lord Almighty. It has very clear proofs and evidence. It guides towards the Straight Path. And that, what it contains from its beginning to end, is useful only for you (Its believers). It is the Mercy of your Lord, which has He revealed for you.

It is the Book, in which these entire characteristics and such qualities exist, which do not have any end, ready to guide every time, present for help in all conditions, useful in constraint times, guarantor of the prosperity of own believers, honor and glory, ground provider to connect with the Creator.

If It (Holy Qur’an) is ignored and one is engaged in spam talks by throwing Its commands behind, then certainly it is the worst adversity and sign of ill-luck. Now you should tell: If someone forgets such conducive and salutary Book, and turns away from It, then who can be more loser and chopper of own feet than him?

Giving It up is extremely oppression, which can be done by anyone upon himself, also upon the human beings. Certainly he would have to be punished severely. Allah Almighty says: We have chosen worst wrath for such people. They will face punishment of their negligence in this world (entire national honor and respect will be snatched from them) as well as they will not be in ease and comfort after death.

The people of Makkah were caused to hear these verses. Very few people believed in the verses. Remaining all people heard from one ear and blew out from the other. The history witnesses that in what manner, the success was granted to the Believers and how much they were promoted, whereas at the other side, in what manner, the Disbelievers came in the grip of disgrace and distress. Those handful Believers beat severely the Disbelievers. Neither their unity on the wrong things rendered any good service and nor their so much Arms and Equipment benefited them. The Message is the same and still even today. The hearers should use their senses.

Commentary

It was described earlier that Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him) was given Torah, and in it, those entire appropriate Rules, which were revealed on different occasions before it, were gathered clearly for the mankind. After that, the same Scripture remained a competent Manual for a long time.

The Psalms of Prophet David and the Gospel of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon Them), which were revealed after the Torah, should be considered as parts of Torah with some amendments, which were necessary to be made with the passage of time. After that, the time kept its own speed and along with it, the condition of the human being got changing with the passage of time, even such time reached, when the entire Commandments were required to be assembled in one Scripture for the entire human beings, so that afterwards, they would not have to go towards someone else for guidance, and from this Scripture, necessary and required commands may be obtained for each situation.

That blessed Scripture is this Holy Qur’an. It is blessed for the reason that such a fountain of guidance has been springing from It, which will never end. The thing, which is limited in terms of the form, but it has unlimited and endless benefits, is called “Blessed”.

It is commanded by God Almighty: Now We have revealed this Scripture (Qur’an) after Torah for the guidance of the entire mankind. Summary of it is that its blessings and bounties will never end, and as long as this world shall stand, guidance for the human being shall spring out from It.

Whenever the mankind will incline towards It (Holy Qur’an), It will cause to understand them the path to follow according to their own condition. After consulting It, no one will have to go anywhere for guidance. Therefore, you should hold It fast and be saved from Its enmity.

There is fear in Its opposition that you will be entangled in any big trouble. But if you followed the Commands; It contains, then the Mercy of Allah Almighty would be upon you and you would be saved from all kinds of disasters and calamities.

Now there is no occasion for you to say that Torah and Gospel were revealed only for the Jews and the Christians, we don’t know, what has been written into Those Scriptures. Allah Almighty commands: We have fulfilled your desire that! Would that any Scripture had reached us, then we would have shown of following its commands fully, and we would have proved that we were better followers of the Scripture than the Jews and the Christians. Lo! Show now acting upon this Scripture (Holy Qur’an).

Belief in the meeting with the Lord - Quran Chapter 6 – 154 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-912) -

Quran Chapter 6 – 154 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-912) -

Belief in the meeting with the Lord

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

154.  Again, We gave the Scripture unto Moses, complete for him who would do good, an explanation of all things, a guidance and a mercy, that they might believe in the meeting with their Lord.
154.  Summa  ‘aatayNaa  Muusal-Kitaaba  tama-man  ‘alallaziii  ‘ahsana  wa  tafsiilal-likulli  shay- ‘inw-wa  hudanw-wa  rahmatalla- ‘allahum  bi-liqaaa-‘i  Rabbihim  yu’-minuun.

Commentary

The commands, mentioned in the first three verses of this Section, which we discussed in the previous lesson, have been prescribed for the entire human beings always and as many Prophets (peace be upon Them) came from the beginning, they all used to convey and admonish the same commands to the people according to the occasion. Every Prophet (peace be upon Him) came unto His nation for manifesting the badness of that particular evil, in which more people of that time were involved and He tried to remove that evil from human beings.

In the same manner, the Scripture Torah was bestowed to Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him), and in it, complete Rules were mentioned for the people, so that they may do good, and entire commands were caused to understand in detail. It was a complete Code of Human Life, and no stone was left unturned to manifest that Code for the good people according to that era.

Allah Almighty commands: You have listened to those Rules, which We have prescribed from the beginning, for the mankind to live in this world. These are the Rules, which the Prophets (peace be upon Them) used to explain before the human beings every time. Which Prophet (peace be upon Him) used to observe any particular evil among His nation, which was opposite to any of the afore-mentioned Rules, He used to press upon that Rule, during His time.

After that, when the time of Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him) came and the tyrant Pharaoh of Egypt overpowered the Children of Israel, as much that they were half-dead, then Allah Almighty caused to discharge them from his grasp through Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him). And for their guidance, the Prophet (peace be upon Him) was given the Scripture.

In that Scripture, Allah Almighty explained everything according to that period so that It may guide those people at every difficult time and the opportunity may meet them to know their Creator and Lord. And they may have full faith in it, that they would have to meet with Allah Almighty after death, where the obedient will be awarded and the disobedient will be punished severely.

First Book of Divine Law is Torah in the world and the Children of Israel are the first nation, which was bestowed with the complete Religious Law of Allah Almighty, which was according to the circumstances of that time. The Psalms of Prophet David (peace be upon Him) was “the Supplement” of that first Scripture i.e. Torah. The Gospel was revealed to support Its one aspect, which was necessary to be strengthened in the terms of the time. Quran Chapter 6 – 152b & 153 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-911) - درس قرآن

None can give anything save Allah

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

In the previous three verses, principles of successful life have been explained for the mankind. When you will recite these blessed verses, you will have no doubt in it that “if the sense of humankind does not work in the light of these verses, then it can do nothing except that it goes in the darkness by catching the finger of Satan.

It is the only way of deliverance of the human being from calamities of life that he should go Straight Path with full belief. These are the entire rules of human culture, upon which, human perfection, mental, economic, collective and political development depends. The commands, which have been described in the verses along with their aims themselves, are as under:

La- ‘allakum  ta’-qiluun – (in order that you may use your sense and wisdom).

La- ‘allakum  tazakkaruun – (that haply you may learn entire matters regarding your own goodness).

La-‘allakum  tattaquun – (that you may be saved from all kinds of evil and wicked deeds)

Summary of it has been appended below:

1.    Ascribe nothing as partner unto Allah Almighty. Practical result of it is that neither the mankind should flatter nor be afraid from any person. Moreover he should have faith that anyone can not give me anything, nor can snatch. I can respect everyone in the world considering that we all are equal. My Greatest and Lord is none but Allah Almighty and there is no any reason that I should fear from anyone except Him, because without His Command, all are as helpless as I am.

2.    Do good to parents. Here it is commanded that you should do good with closest kinsfolk, but considering from it is not too much difficult that relationship of the human being does not end here, but it spreads in the entire world gradually. Therefore, every mankind deserves everyone’s good behavior step by step.

3.    Slay not your children in any case. The Arabs used to kill their children, but according to this verse, the hidden killing has also been forbidden, i.e. habituating the children to commit evil for the purpose of earning, because, cause of both reasons is fear of poverty. After preventing from it, Allah Almighty commands: Don’t worry; We give livelihood. It is the verification of the wise people that the society; that is to say; the assembly of the humankind is viceroy of Allah Almighty in the world. So it is the duty of every human being that he should do all those works, for which Allah Almighty has taken responsibility.

4.    Draw not nigh to lewd things. It means that all such immortal deeds, which induce unreasonable desires, have been forbidden.

5.    Don’t kill any person until the law does not permit.

6.    Don’t embezzle the wealth of orphans, but you should protect it, till they reach maturity. There is a command in it about the safety of life and wealth of all weak and old people, and the society i.e. viceroys of the Creator should perform this duty.

7.    Do justice among mutual affairs; give full measure and full weight.

8.    Establish the Religion mutually all together because you have made covenant with Allah Almighty.

9.    It is the demand of the Religion that Muslims should never be disunited.

If the mankinds use their sense properly, they can find entire ways for their betterment and pass a peaceful life.
