Quran Chapter 4- 144 & 145 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-617) - درس قرآن

Clear warrant against oneself

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

144.  O ye who believe! Choose not disbelievers (your) friends in place of believers. Do you desire that you should give Allah a clear warrant against you?

145.  Lo! The hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire, and thou wilt find no helper for them-
144.  Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aamanuu  laa  tattakhizul-kaafiriina  ‘awli-yaaa-‘a  min-duu-nil-Mu’-miniin.  ‘A-turiiduuna  ‘an-taj-‘aluu  Lillaahi  ‘alaykum  sul-taanam-mubiinaa.

145.  ‘Innal-Munaafiqiina  fid-darkil-‘asfali  minan-Naar.  Wa  lan  tajida  lahum  nasiiraa.

    Commentary

Sul-taan – (warrant, power, mastery, proof, charge, accusation and such reason, by which other person is seized.

After mentioning all wicked tricks of the hypocrites, now it has been instructed that the Muslims should not keep association with them. This command has already been conveyed twice earlier. Again, it is being repeated that due to friendship and social intercourse with such bad and wicked persons, you will gain nothing. If despite their vicious deeds, you will make them friends, they will harm to other Muslims more on this plea. So, you should keep yourselves away from them and do not become base of loss for other Muslims, otherwise very patent and strong reason will be set up to punish you too by Allah Almighty.

Then; it has been described that these people are very dangerous and bad, more than infidels. They will be admitted in the lowest depths of the Hell, where besides those punishments, which have been fixed for the upper stages, their torment will be separate. And aggregate of those entire anguishes will be their lot. At that time; no trickery of theirs will be useful. No matter of anybody is hidden from Allah Almighty, how will they deceive or cheat Him? They will flatter the Angels (peace be upon them), who are guards of the Hell, “Relieve us only for a while” but the Angels (peace be upon them) neither listen to anyone, nor look at any person. They mind their own business. There will be no form of exemption from torment for them.

For the Believers, mention of good retaliation of their good deeds has been made in the Holy Qur’an again and again as well as mutinous and evil-doings of infidels and hypocrites. Allah Almighty has described repeatedly their punishment and bad consequences for admonition and precept of human beings. This matter needs particular attention that if an awful doom has been mentioned for the infidels, then a painful doom has also been described for the hypocrites. Likewise, if for the infidels, is punishment of the Hell, then news for the hypocrites is the torment in darkil-‘asfali  (the lowest depths) of the Hell.

God beguiles the hypocrites - Quran Chapter 4 -142 & 143 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-616) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 142 & 143 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-616) - درس قرآن

God beguiles the hypocrites

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

142.  Lo! The hypocrites seek to beguile Allah, but it is He Who beguileth them. When they stand up to worship they perform it languidly and to be seen of men, and are mindful of Allah but little.

143.  Swaying between this (and that), (belonging) neither to these nor to those. And he whom Allah causeth to go astray, thou (O Muhammad) will not find a way for him.
142.  ‘Innal-Munaa-fiqiina  yu-khaadi-‘uunAllaaha  wa  Huwa  khaadi-‘uhum.  Wa  ‘izaa   qaamuuu   ‘ilas-Salaati  qaamuu  kusaalaa, yuraaa-‘uunan-naasa  wa  laa  yazkuruunAllaaha  ‘illaa  qaliilaa.

143.  Muzab-zabiina  bayna  zaalik,-  laaa  ‘ilaa  haaa-‘ulaaa-‘i  wa  laaa  ‘ilaa  haaa-‘ulaaa’.  Wa  many-yuzli-Lillaahu  falan-  tajida  lahuu  Sabiilaa.

    Commentary

Yu-khaadi-‘uuna  (they beguile), khaadi-‘uhum – (He will beguile them), both words are from the same origin. Base of these words is khadaaa’, which means ‘to beguile, to cheat, to deceive, to exercise cleverness’. Its aim is that the hypocrites deceive God Almighty and His servants with their own vanity assurance, while they have deceived themselves but they do not feel. God will reply them about this deceiving.

Kusaalaa – (languidly), it is plural of kaslaan, which has been derived from kasala, means laziness, idleness and indolence. Kaslaan is that person, who works with indolence, like a tired, and that, who does not work actively and with love.

Yuraaa-‘uuna – (to be seen of), it is from riaaa’, which means to work as for to be seen of the people. These persons perform the worship and offer the prayer only for the purpose that others consider them worshippers.

Muzab-zabiina – (swaying between), it has been made from zabzabah, which means “Swaying between this and that, belonging neither to these nor to those”.

Following five outward indications of the hypocrites have been described in these verses:-

1.    They have fallen themselves in the deception, but think that they deceive Allah Almighty.

2.    They perform worship but languidly, like tired persons and with indolence.

3.    There is no sincerity in their prayers. They offer prayer only to be seen of the people.

4.    They seldom remember their Creator (Allah Almighty).

5.    They remain lingered between the belief and the infidelity. Neither they embrace belief heartily nor can they join the infidelity clearly.

Claim of hypocrites that they were Muslims - Quran Chapter 4 -141 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-615) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 141 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-615) - درس قرآن

Claim of hypocrites that they were Muslims

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

141.  Those who wait upon occasion in regard to you and, if a victory cometh unto you from Allah, they say: Were we not with you? And if the disbelievers meet with a success, they say: Had we not the mastery of you, and did we not protect you from the believers? Allah will judge between you at the Day of Resurrection. And Allah will not give the disbelievers any way (of success) against the believers.
141.  ‘Allaziina  yatarabba-suuna  bikum.  Fa-‘in  kaana  lakum  fat-hum-minallaahi  qaaluu  ‘alam  nakum-ma-‘akum.  Wa  ‘in-  kaana  lil-kaafiriina  nasii-bun,  qaaluu  ‘alam  nastah-wiz  ‘alaykum  wa  namna’-kum-minal-Mu’-miniin.  Fallaahu  yah-kumu   baynakum  Yawmal-Qiyaamah.  Wa  lany-yaj-‘alAllaahu  lil-kaafiriina  ‘alal-Mu’miniina  sabiilaa.

    Commentary

Nasii-bun  - here its object is ‘the part of the battle’ that is to say; success.

Nastah-wiz – (we had the mastery of you), it has been made from ‘istih-waazun, which means ‘to encircle, to Encompass all around’. Here it means, “We protected you”.

Sabiilaa – (way), here it aims ‘superiority, overcoming, hold, power, opportunity’ etc.

Allah Almighty commands that the hypocrites keep observing your circumstances. There is no hope from them that they would become your followers and true hearten companions, and cooperate with you in grief and ease. They make friends only after looking opportunity and their main object is worldly advantage. They are unable to see above it. Likewise their condition is, “When you would be fighting with your enemies, then seemingly they would be staying side by side with you and would use to observe the blooming of the battle”.

If you got victory, they would reach you at once and would begin gaining honor, “We have joined you and have lived together with you in the battle smoothly”. Like this, they will make known to you their records of stirring deeds, so that you consider their partnership in victory and give also them a portion from the spoils (maale ghaniimat). And if (God forbid) you are defeated and the enemy succeeded, then they will leave you and join your enemies. And to please them, they will make up stories, “We were with the Muslims for the purpose that we might stop their advance towards you. We had encompassed everywhere around you, so that the Muslims might not come up you. Therefore, your victory is due to us and we are equal partners of that, which you have gained in the battle”.

Then it has been described that such time-serving persons bring about their purposes by any means in the world, and sometimes the people do not understand their tricks and they are deceived. But on the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will be Justice among you and them.

Sit not with them when they reject Revelations - Quran Chapter 4 -140 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-614) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 140 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-614) - درس قرآن

Sit not with them when they reject Revelations

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

140.  And He hath already revealed unto you in the Scripture that, when ye hear the Revelations of Allah are being rejected and derided, (ye) sit not with them (who disbelieve and mock) until they engage in some other conversation; lo! In that case (if ye stayed) ye would be like unto them. Lo! Allah will gather hypocrites and disbelievers, all together, into Hell-
140.  Wa  qad  nazzala  ‘alaykum  fil-Kitaabi  ‘an  ‘izaa  sami’-tum  ‘Aayaa-Tillaahi  yukfaru  bihaa  wa  yustah-za-‘u  bihaa  falaa  taq-‘uduu  ma-‘ahum  hattaa  yakhuuzuu  fii  hadiisin  gayrih.  ‘Innakum  ‘izam- misluhum.  ‘InnAllaaha  jaami-‘ul-Munaa-fiqiina  wal-kaafiriina  fii  Jahannama  jamii-‘aa.

    Commentary

Yustah-za-‘u  - (derided), its origin is ‘istih-zaa-‘un, which means  to mock, to taunt, to laugh at. Particularly in this form that if the aim is to disgrace someone or something.

Yakhuuzuu – (they engage), it is from khawz, which means to be busy, to reflect, to think, to go inside anything. Here it signifies ‘to engage in some other conversation’.

This Chapter (Surah) was revealed in Madinah. This verse was revealed about the behavior of the hypocrites of Madinah that they used to deride and reject the verses of the Word of Allah Almighty i.e. Holy Qur’an. A command was also revealed on the same subject during the life before it i.e. during the period in Makkah, because behavior of the people of Makkah was the same as of the hypocrites of Madinah. For reference you can see also Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Chapter: Cattle), verse # 68 (6:68), (“And when thou seest those who meddle with Our Revelations, withdraw from them until they meddle with another topic. And if the devil causes thee to forget, sit not, after the remembrance, with the wrongdoing people”.

It has been mentioned, “We have already revealed this command in the Holy Qur’an. Entire Muslims should act upon that. This commandment is not only for the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), but it is for the entire Muslims. The assembly in which you observe that the Revelations of Allah Almighty are being rejected and derided and the faults are being found into Them, being criticized and the people of the assembly are meddling at Them, then you should go away from that assembly. If you stayed there, listened to their fault-finding and jest, then you would also be like them and would be included in the disrespectful.

However, when they engage in some other conversation and do not discourse impudently about the verses of Allah Almighty, then it is no sin to sit with them. Allah Almighty will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers, all together, into the Hell. They entire will suffer from very severe torment there. Therefore, you should not attend such assemblies, in which the Revelations, Verses and Commandments of Holy Qur’an are being derided and rejected. And if you are already sitting there, then you should leave that gathering at that time, lest you are also included in the punishment.
