In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the
Merciful
62. Lo! Those who believe (in that which is
revealed unto thee, Muhammad), and those who are Jews, and Christians, and Sabaeans –
whoever believeth in Allah and the Last Day and doeth right – surely
their reward is with their Lord, and there shall no fear come upon them
neither shall they grieve.

Commentary
‘Aa-manuu – (Believed) in this verse
“to believe” means “to join” the Muslim Community.
Haadu – (the Jews) the people
who have entered in the community of the Jews, whether they are the Children
of Israel or otherwise.
Nasaaraa – (the Christians) Nasaaraa is
plural of Nasraani. There was a town in Palestine named ‘Naasirah’.
The Prophet Jesus (peace be upon Him) was born in this town. Due to
relationship with this town; the Prophet Jesus (peace be upon Him) is called
Jesus Christ Naasri (peace be upon Him). So who follows Him, is
included in Nasaaraa (the followers of the Christ who was born
in Naasirah).
‘As-Saabi-‘iina – (Sabaeans),
individuals, who inclined towards some other religion giving up their own, are
called Saabi-‘iin. It was a sect in the Arab. They believed in
Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him), used to worship the Angels (peace be upon
Them), used to recite the Psalms of Prophet David (peace be upon Him) and
during the worship, they used to turn towards “the Square Building at Makkah”. The Arabians
used to say them Saabi ‘the Disbelievers’.
God Almighty has removed
misunderstanding of the greatness of the Name, the Family background and the
Race, and announced that near to Allah Almighty, either Name or surname or the
title are nothing, neither honor of good birth from a particular nation or race
and distinction is trustworthy. Two things are necessary for freedom from the
wrath of God Almighty, whether the people belong to any race or nation, or they
have any surname or title.
- They believe in Allah and the Last Day (the Day of Resurrection) whole heartily.
- They do right (good).
If the people will believe in
Allah Almighty, certainly they will admit His Orders and Commandments also. We
have come to know these Orders and Commandments by means of the Last Prophet
Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon Him). So belief in this Prophet (peace be
upon Him) has been included in it too. If they will believe in the Day of
Resurrection then they would have to believe in the punishment and reward.
In short, having belief in God
Almighty and obeying His commandments are necessary for deliverance from the
Hell and reward, and it is impossible to have belief in God Almighty without
acceptance of the Prophet-hood of the Last Messenger; Muhammad (grace, peace
and blessings of Allah be on Him).
