Commentary

It was described in the previous verse that the entire things/creatures of the world are naught save a pastime and a sport. As any intelligent person will not like to pass his whole the time in a sport or game, similarly, every wise person considers it foolishness to remain involved every time in the works of the world.

The Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) used to grieve at the time of observing the people engaged in this folly. He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) had more kindness and favor for the human beings in His heart than a father, who has kindness and favor in his heart for his children.

None is sympathizer of the humankind equal to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Whenever, He used to observe the people wasting their precious time in prolix speaking like the ignorant children, whereas they would have to do such works, which would be useful for them in the world, Hereafter and on the Day of Resurrection, then His heart (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) used to be grieved.

Allah Almighty consoled His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him): O Messenger! Don’t be grieved, nor feel sorrow, and have faith that due to disbelieving in Your Messenger-hood, actually they are going to confront Allah Almighty, and considering those verses and tokens false, which He has revealed in the world to prove You the True Messenger. They are, in fact, opposing Allah Almighty.

Allah Almighty addresses His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) in this verse: We know well how their talk and deeds grieve You. But their presumptuousness and stupid-ness will never end. Therefore feeling sorrow upon them is like hurting Your soul Yourself. You should take it as “Apparently they are saying to you a liar” but actually they are flouting the Revelations and verses sent down by Allah Almighty. So certainly they will be punished by Him. Their case should be given up for decision by Allah Almighty.

They have made themselves blameworthy at fault and offenders in two ways.

1.    Disobedience of Allah Almighty openly.

2.    Giving pain to the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) by their behavior.

O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! You should have patience. Surely Allah Almighty will punish them very severely, if they did not abstain. It is known clearly from this verse that the person, who does not follow the Commands of Allah Almighty, mentioned in Holy Qur’aan and the Sayings of His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), has been hurting the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).
