Lesson
Summun – (Deaf; hard of hearing; inattentive). Singular
of this word is ‘asam, which means “a deaf”. Although, the Hypocrites
were not deaf apparently, but they were called deaf, because, they used to hear
the true advice of Islam, but reject it. They listened and showed that they
have not listened; as if they were deaf and did not listen.
Bukmun – (Dumb; speechless; mute). This word is
singular of ‘abkum, which means a dumb. Although they had tongues
but turned away from asking the true advice and did not accept the Truth, as
though they were dumb and had not tongue in their mouths.
‘Umyun -
(Blind; unable to see) (plural of Aa’-maa). It means blind people.
They were called blind because, having their eyes; they had seen the Signs of
Allah Almighty but didn’t accept.
In this verse; the End
of the deeds of hypocrites has been explained. Notwithstanding; after appearing
the Light of Islam, they still adopted the darkness of infidelity. Due to
worldly benefits, personal desires and carnal wishes, they didn’t distinguish
among good and bad. As according to the natural rule, if the hand is put in
fire, it burns, similarly, because of their perversity and intentionally
depravity, their entire capabilities of recognizing the Truth were lost.
Infidelity came over them. They were deprived of the Light of Islam. Allah
Almighty snatched the Light because of their evil deeds and they began to go
astray in darkness.
It was compulsory result
of distinguishing not between good and bad that, having ears they were unable
to hear the Voice of the Truth. Their tongues became dumb due to asking not
about the right path from someone. Their eyes became blind due to looking not
the Light of Islam. And Revelations of God Almighty didn’t affect them.
There are three apparent
ways of acquiring knowledge: ear, tongue and eye. Sometime a man obtains
knowledge of some things by listening, sometime by asking from someone and
sometimes he looks other things with his eyes. But a hypocrite loses his these
three powers due to his obstinacy and stubbornness. And then, neither he hears
the sound of any Guide, nor asks about true knowledge and nor gets any
influence by observing the Signs of the Truth. And now there is no hope of his
returning from infidelity to Islam or from darkness to the Light.
