Hypocrites treat with contempt
Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)
BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
14. And when they fall in with
those who believe, they say: We believe; and when they go apart to their
devils they declare: Lo! We are with you; verily we did but mock.
15. Allah (Himself) doth mock
them, leaving them to wander blindly on in their contumacy.

Lesson
Shayaatiini-him – (Their Devils), the word ‘Shaytaan’ has very vast meanings in Arabic language. Mischievous
and contumacious people are also called Devils. It is applied on those entire
human beings and demons (ghosts) who have the nature of devils. In this verse ‘Shayaatiini-him’ means the Leaders of
the Hypocrites who had become devils due to their mischief and contumacy.
Mus-tahzi-‘uun – (We mock), this word is from ‘istah-zaa’, which means to deride, to mock.
Tug-yaanihim – (in their contumacies), this word has been derived
from ta-gaa. The origin of the word tug-yaani is also the same. It means “to
deviate from a prescribed limit”. Here it aims “crossing the limit in
insolence”.
Ya’-mahuun – (wandering blindly). This word has been made
from the word ‘amah, which means “blindness”. Here it means the condition of a
person, in which, he may not see the straight path and wanders hither and
thither blindly.
Another stubbornness of the
Hypocrites is being described in this verse that they used to practice
bidirectional tricks, and deceive the people. When they used to meet the
Muslims, for deceiving them and winning their favor, say, “We believed also”.
But when they used to go nigh their leaders in solitude, say: “We are with you,
we make the Muslims foolish. They are foolish and simpletons. They tell their
secrets considering us true and inform about their intentions and plans.”
Replying them, Allah Almighty turned their mock back to them.
Following proverb may be applied
here, “Tit for tat” or “As you sow, so you shall reap”. God Almighty has left
them in so much worst condition that they have been wandering blindly in their
contumacy and struggling in the dark without Light of the Holy Qur’aan.
