Quran Chapter 2- 124a (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-149) -

Covenant of Allah includes not the wrongdoers

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

124a.  And (remember) when his Lord tried Abraham with (His) commands, and he fulfilled them. He said: Lo! I have appointed thee a leader for mankind. (Abraham) said: And of my offspring (will there be leaders)? He said: My covenant includeth not wrongdoers.
124a.  Wa ‘izibtalaaa ‘Ibraahii-ma Rabbuhuu bi-Kalimaatin,  fa- ‘atammahunn. Qaala  ‘Innii  jaa- ‘iluka lin-naasi  ‘Imaamaa.  Qaala  wa min-zurriyyatii.  Qaala laa yanaalu  ‘abdiz-zaa-limiin.

Commentary

‘Ibraahii-ma: (Abraham) every person knows about the name of this great respectable Prophet (blessing on Him). He was most glorious grandfather of our Prophet, the Last Messenger of God Almighty, Muhammad (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him).  His native land was Babel and His father’s name was Aazar.  Out of His Children; two races were grown, one from the Children of Prophet Isaac (blessing on Him) and the other from the Children of Prophet Ishmael (blessing on Him). The Prophets from the first lineage are called Israeli Prophets (blessing on Them), for example Prophet Solomon, Prophet David, Prophet Moses and Prophet Jesus Christ (blessings on all of them) etc. From the second lineage (Ishmaeli), there was only one; our Prophet Muhammad (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him).

Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him) is called the grandfather of the Prophets (blessings on Them). Besides the Muslims, all others, like the Children of Israel and the Christians respect Him also.

‘Izibtalaaa: (when tried/examined), this word has been derived from Baliihi. Its meanings are calamity, testing and trouble. Allah Almighty examined this Prophet of Him (blessing on Him) with many tests. For example, Sculptor and Idolater father threatened to drive Him out from his house, His nation frightened to banish from the Country and the King put Him into fire but He didn’t refrain from Islam and remained steadfast on the right path. Then God Almighty commanded that He should leave His wife and child in the forest and sacrifice His child also. He obeyed all these orders too. Besides these trials, He (blessing on Him) was tried by some more tests and He succeeded in all.

‘Imaama: (a leader, a spiritual guide), this leadership of Prophet Abraham (blessing on Him) was not only for spiritual and religious guidance but Allah Almighty blessed Him with betterment in politics also. He (peace be upon Him) became a real leader and priest in His times. The People accepted His leadership.

Commentary

We have learnt the lessons on these both verses in lesson #55 and 60 (verse – 40 & 47). Recitation about the Children of Israel had been commenced from there and till now their scientific doctrinal and practical weaknesses are being explained. They have been invited also towards the Straight Path, that is to say, Islam. It has been proved by means of clear and bright evidences that the Last Prophet (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) is on the Truth, a true Prophet, and it is necessary for every individual to believe in Him (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) and remain steadfast on His teachings. The Children of Israel were also instructed that they should adopt the straight path of Allah Almighty by giving up anger, opposition, making religious groups among themselves and stubbornness.

Now they are being reminded again for those things and being informed about the consequences of the Day of Resurrection. In this world, a person can be saved by the help of any other person, reward or penalty and by recommendations or power/influence. But to Allah Almighty, nothing will be helpful out of these things. Just every individual’s own acts and deeds will be helpful there. Tributes, fines, recommendations, friendship or help of anyone else will become useless on the Doomsday.

Quran Chapter 2- 121 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-147) -

Knowledge of those who read their Holy Books

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

121.  Those unto whom We have given the Scripture, who read it with the right reading. Those believe in it. And whoso disbelieveth in it, those are they who are the losers.
121.  ‘Allaziina  ‘aatay-Naahu-mul-Kitaaba  yatluunahuu  haqqa tilaawatih.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ika yu’-minuuna bih.  Wa many-yakfur bihii fa-‘ulaaa-‘ika humul-khaasiruun.

Commentary

Haqqa tilaawatih – (the right of its reading), tilaawat means reading. The word tuloo is its origin. Literal meaning of this word is ‘to follow’. So this sentence aims that those people, who have a right to read the Scripture of God Almighty. That is to say; they also act upon it, they follow the instructions guided in it and they do not decrease or increase in it.

‘Allaziina  ‘aatay-Naahu-mul-Kitaaba – (Those people to whom We have given the Scripture), it signifies towards the Children of Israel and the Christians.

Result of making groups in the religion was mentioned in the last verse. Namely, the soul of following the teachings of the groups is working in place of truth-loving and looking the reality. The people do not observe any individual’s belief and deeds. They see only that whether any person belongs to their group or otherwise. While the sense of people becomes so, then it is clear that the arguments and proofs cannot produce effects. All the proofs become useless for the people, whether how much true and real facts are produced.

It has been mentioned in today’s lesson that if the people of the Scriptures adopt honesty, sincerity and friendship, leaving anger, lust and stubbornness, and recite their Holly Books wholeheartedly, then they might be convinced on the truth of Holy Qur’an and the Last Messenger (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him), and will believe in Prophet-hood of Muhammad (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him).

The people, who change and distort their Holy Books and don’t be attentive with good intentions, they would never be convinced on the truth of Holy Qur’an. They are involved in anger, stubbornness, sensual desires and group making. If it is done by them then they will remain involved in infidelity forever. They will use to reject the truth continuously. Resultant, they will suffer loss in this world and will be ruined on the Day of Resurrection.

People of Scripture will never be pleased with you - Quran Chapter 2- 120 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-146) -

Quran Chapter 2- 120 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-146) -

People of Scripture will never be pleased with you

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

120.  And the Jews will not be pleased with thee, nor will the Christians, till thou follow their creed. Say: Lo! The Guidance of Allah is the Guidance. And if thou shouldst follow their desires after the knowledge which hath come unto thee, then wouldst thou have from Allah no protecting friend nor helper.
120.  Wa lan- tarzaa  ‘ankal- Yahuudu wa lan-Nasaaraa hattaa tattabi-‘a  millatahum.  Qul ‘inna Hudal-laahi huwal-Hudaa.

Commentary

Millatahum – (their creed, religion, faith, routine, practice, way).

‘Ahwaaa-‘ahum – (their desires, wishes) ‘Ahwaaa means those thoughts and opinions, foundation of which is not upon the knowledge or the reality but on sensual wishes. Singular of this word is hawaa.

The Children of Israel and the Christians were so much envious that whether the Messenger of God Almighty (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) would have behaved with them much sympathetically or had shown partiality, but they ignored always and disbelieved for ever in His (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) Sayings. They might be pleased only when the last Messenger (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) would have accepted/embraced their religion.

God Almighty commands that the true religion and real way of guidance is only that, which He has revealed on His Last Prophet Muhammad (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him), that is to say; worship of God Almighty and good works. As much as the groups have been raised separately, they all have been produced by human straying. The individuals, who will leave the straight path intentionally, will be punished rigorously and will not find any protecting friend or helper of them.

Two things have been cleared entirely from this verse:

·       The religion of the people of The Scripture has been changed so much that there has remained nothing except their desires and false wishes.

·       The real path is that, which has been cleared well by God Almighty by means of  His Last Messenger (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) for the human beings.

Prophet of good news and a Warner - Quran Chapter 2- 119 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-145) -

Quran Chapter 2- 119 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-145) -

Prophet of good news and a Warner

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

119.  Lo! We have sent thee (O Muhammad) with the truth, a Bringer of glad-tidings and a Warner; and thou wilt not be asked about the owners of Hell-fire.
119.  ‘InNaaa ‘arsalNaaka bil-haqqi   bashiiranw-wa naziiranw,-wa laa tus-‘alu ‘an ‘As-haabil-Jahiim.

Commentary

Bil-haqqi – (with the truth), it aims: We (Allah Almighty) have sent You {O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)} to Guide the human beings unto the Truth. It also means that ‘You speak the truth always, produce clear proofs and bright arguments for the Right.

Bashiirun – (a bringer of glad-tidings), that is to say; those people, who believe and follow the Commandments and Instructions of God Almighty and His Messenger (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) “Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is a bringer of glad-tidings of happiness for them - betterment in this world and the Day of Resurrection as retaliation of their good deeds”.

Naziirun – (The Warner), namely Messenger (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) warns from bad results of evil-deeds during their present life and the Day of Resurrection to those people, who disbelieve, deny and violate”. These two characteristics of the Last Messenger, Muhammad (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) are very important.

The Infidels and the Idolaters had doubts in Prophet-hood of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) and the Truth of Holy Qur’an and used to argue that if God Almighty can talk with a Messenger (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) then why does He not talk with us whereas we are also mankind? Or why does He not bestow on Him {Muhammad (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him)} a great miracle due to which the Prophet-hood and the Truth may be proved automatically?

Replying to their objection, God Almighty commanded: Do you ask for one miracle? We have bestowed many miracles to Our Messenger (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him), but only those people will believe in Him (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) who are truly seekers of the Truth wholeheartedly, have faith in the Truth. Those people will not believe whose perspective is only to criticize and produce the doubts.

Allah Almighty has commanded in this verse to His Messenger (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him): We have sent You with the True Religion. The people, who will follow You, are Believers. For them, You are Bringer of glad-tidings for their good works. However, those, who will not follow You, they are Infidels, they will be thrown into the Fire of Hell. You are Warner for them for their bad consequence. The Messenger’s duty is only to convey the Message of God Almighty. He (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) is not responsible of making the Infidels and Idolaters Muslims.

Quran Chapter 2- 118 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-144) -

Hearts of all people are alike

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

118.  And those who have no knowledge say: Why doth not Allah speak unto us, or some sign come unto us? Even thus, as they now speak, spoke those (who were) before them. Their hearts are all alike. We have made clear the Revelations for people who are sure.
118.  Wa qaalal-laziina laa ya’-lamuuna law-laa  yukallimu-nAllaahu ‘aw ta’-tiinaaa  ‘Aa-yah. Kazaalika qaalal-laziina min-qablihim – misla  qawlihim.  Tashaabahat quluubuhum. Qad bayyaNNal-‘aayaati  li-qawminy-yuuqinuun.

Commentary

‘Al-laziina laa ya’-lamuuna – (those who have no knowledge), it is meant “the individuals, who are deprived of actual religious knowledge”. This verse indicates towards the Infidels/Idolaters particularly.

laa  yukallimu-naa – (does not speak with us), it means: Why God Almighty does not speak with us directly without inter-relation of the Prophets and the Messengers (peace be upon Them).

‘Aa-yah – (sign, token, a verse of the Holy Qur’an), this word has also come as for the “Miracle” in the Holy Qur’an. Here it aims ‘the Miracle’ also.

Infidels and idolaters of Makkah claimed from the Last Messenger of God Almighty, Muhammad (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) that if Allah Almighty talks to the Prophets and the Messengers (peace be upon Them) then; why does He not talk to us directly. Or why does He not send any strange token (miracle) for support and authentication of the Last Prophet (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him), so that we should admit automatically about the truth of Prophet (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) by looking it.

Allah Almighty commands that the people before them said like these things too. Standard of sense - spiritual and moral - of those people was very low and of these people is also very low. Since hearts of the both are the same in having not prudence and gratefulness.

Replying them for these commands, Allah Almighty says, “you have demanded just one miracle, I have sent many clear miracles already, for instance; the truth, the trust, the honesty and the wisdom of the Last Messenger of God Almighty Muhammad (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him), there is No example of Holy Qur’an from any aspect. You are Helpless in replying to it, the Journey of the Last Prophet of God Almighty (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) for Ascension (Me’-raaj) and change of the Moon in two pieces are before you”.
